Historic Cut Coming to Motorway Toll Prices in Hungary
Hungary will introduce motorway toll reductions in 2026 — the first price cuts since the vignette system began. The discounts apply in five counties and are intended to compensate drivers for long-term traffic disruptions caused by major construction projects on the M1 and M30, according to Origo.

A significant section of the M30 between Miskolc-North and Szikszó has been closed since February 2024 due to road subsidence.

To offset the inconvenience, the annual vignette for Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County will be offered at a 65% discount in 2026.

Drivers will be able to purchase it for 2,500 forints (about 6.55 euros), granting access not only to the M30 and M3 but also to all other toll roads within the county.

The discounted county vignette covers:

M1 motorway: Entire section from the border at Hegyeshalom to the city limits of Budapest

M15 motorway: Entire section between the M1 and the Rajka border

M19 expressway: Entire section between the M1 and Győr center

M2 expressway: Entire section from the M0 to Vác-North

M3 motorway: From Budapest to Hatvan

M31 motorway: Entire section between the M0 and M3

M4 motorway: From Budapest to Szolnok-North

M44 expressway: Between Kecskemét-North and Szentkirály

M5 motorway: From Budapest to Lajosmizse

M51 expressway: Entire section between M0 and M5

M6 motorway: Between the M0 expressway and the Paks-North exit

M7 motorway: Between Budapest and Balatonvilágos

M85 motorway: Entire section between M1 and the Sopron state border

M86 motorway: Between the M85 motorway and Répcelak

M0 motorway: Entire section between the M1-M0 junction and the M0-Main Road No. 11 junction.

Renovation and widening works on the M1 between Budapest and Győr have also prompted reductions.

Residents of the four affected counties — Pest, Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom, and Győr-Moson-Sopron — will be able to buy the M1 regional vignette for around half price, at 15,000 forints (about 39.30 euros).

The discount remains in place for the full duration of the construction.

Officials estimate that the reduced fees will leave around seven billion forints (18 million euros) in motorists’ pockets during the project.

The M1 regional vignette covers 808 kilometres of toll roads across the four counties, including key sections of the M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M15, M19, M31, M44, M51, M85, M86 and the relevant stretch of the M0.

County vignettes remain valid beyond administrative borders up to the first exit in the neighbouring county.
