New Poll: Over One-Third Of Hungarians Xenophobic

More than one-third of Hungarians are xenophobic, but hostility to outsiders is no greater now than it was in 2014, according to a recent survey by pollsters Tárki. Tárki senior researcher Endre Sik told Népszabadság that xenophobia is high, but was not increased by the government’s anti-refugee national consultation and poster campaign, nor the influx of migrants.
European Guests Still Driving Force Of Hungary Tourism

Although the number of guest nights spent by Chinese and Indian tourists in Hungary is on the rise, European guests remain the driving force of Hungary’s tourism sector, the head of the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants said. Ákos Niklai told public news channel M1 that around 80% of Hungary’s tourists come from European countries.

Retail sales in Hungary climbed by 4.7% in August from the same month a year earlier, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office on Monday show. The increase was the same when adjusted for calendar year effects. The unadjusted rise was down from 6.8% in July. An increasing number of nurses are emigrating from Hungary, primarily for Germany and Austria, Világgazdaság reports. Sweden and Norway, which are short of 6,000 nurses, are hoping to attract experienced nurses with offers of free language courses, return flights to Hungary, and monthly salaries of up to Ft 1.2 million.
