I first visited Budapest in 1982. I came with some friends on the overnight train from Warsaw, where I was working at the British Embassy. Howling dogs and misty border crossings - it was like living in a John le Carré novel. Budapest was shrouded in freezing fog all weekend but I still fell in love with the city.

The National Assembly has passed a law intended to keep fake parties away from the 2018 election, reports Magyar Nemzet. The modification of the law on party financing drafted by Fidesz MPs Gergely Gulyás and Róbert Répássy was accepted with 184 yes and two no votes. All four Democratic Coalition MPs absented themselves from the vote.

New information was released about the renovation of the currently abandoned building of the former SZOT Resort on Rózsadomb (Rose Hill). News site Hvg.hu has discovered that the BVA (Budapest World Heritage Foundation) is considering filing a lawsuit, as the new building would be even taller than the former resort.
