H5 Suburban Railway Linking Budapest and Szentendre to Get Upgraded Finally
The H5 suburban railway linking Budapest and Szentendre will be upgraded after 40 years, MÁV group CEO Zsolt Hegyi announced in a video posted on his Facebook page.

The goal is to start an upgrade of the entire Budapest HÉV network.

Hegyi recalled that he used the Szentendre HÉV line for years when he lived in Békásmegyer, so for him the HÉV is a symbol of stability, and it runs every five minutes even today.

The drawback of stability, he continued is that the infrastructure and the vehicles have hardly changed in 40 years. But now the decisions have been made which are necessary for the H5 HÉV renewal, with everything to be completely changed by the end of 2029.

Seven escalators and two lifts will be installed at the Békásmegyer stop and modern, low floored, air-conditioned trains will run.
