The cabinet has agreed to enter into a joint venture with Australian mining company Wildhorse Energy to assess the viability of reviving uranium mining in the Mecsek hills in the next six months. The joint venture company will be set up by Wildhorse, which already has ongoing projects in the region near Pecs, along with state owned rehabilitation company Mecsek-Oko and mining company Mecsekerc.

Hungarian Banks Prepare For Intra-Day Payment

Banks and the MNB are carrying out test runs of intra-day settlements of electronic payment orders at high volume, before a new system enters into effect on July 1, the Banking Association announced yesterday. Electronic payment orders between banks will be executed within four hours, rather than the current two or three days, from Monday.

Hungary: Council Lifts Cohesion Fund Suspension

The Council on 22 June adopted a decision lifting the suspension of cohesion fund commitments for Hungary. It concluded that Hungary has taken measures to correct its excessive government deficit by 2012, in line with the Council's recommendation of 13 March. Hungary's excessive deficit procedure nevertheless remains open.
