Migrants Nearing Hungarian Border

Approximately 130 migrants who set off on foot from Belgrade are just a few kilometres from the Hungarian-Serb border. The state-run TV M1 reported yesterday that the migrants had arrived in Subotica early in the morning and then were seen in about 10 kilometres from the Hungarian border.

The Hungarian government has a “firm position” in the interest of the “tens of thousands” of Hungarians employed in the UK, the foreign minister said in an interview broadcast on public Kossuth Radio. It is important that the freedoms of trade and investment are maintained and that rights of Hungarians in the UK are not violated, Péter Szijjártó said.

President János Áder has selected October 2 as the date for the referendum on the mandatory resettlement of non-Hungarian citizens in Hungary, it was announced yesterday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on February 24 that the cabinet would initiate a national referendum on the EU decision, made last October, to have all member states accept a number of refugees, based on their population.
