I'm 37 and was brought up in Glasgow, Scotland where after finishing school I made my way into deepest darkest Central Europe as an 18 year-old to teach English in Transylvania for a year. One university degree in translation and interpreting later (back in Edinburgh) I came out to Budapest to be with my fiancée. That was some 15 years ago now.

Ferenc Kumin is an economist and political scientist. He holds two MAs from the Corvinus University of Budapest and from CEU, and is a PhD candidate at the former. His fields of interest have been political communication and campaigning, political effect on finances, e-governance and e-democracy, and functioning of the parliamentarian heads of states.

The original Vienna Strauss Orchestra was formed by none other than Mr. Johann Strauss himself in 1825 to perform his compositions. Masterpieces like “The Blue Danube” Waltz, “The Vienna Blood” Waltz, “Tritsch-Tratsch” Polka, The Radetzky March and many many more were created by the magnificent Strauss Dynasty Foundation.

According to KPMG’s new publication CEE Property Lending Barometer 2012, banks appear to be even less sanguine about a recovery of the real estate market. To assess the prospects for bank financing in the CEE real estate sector, KPMG surveyed 35 of the region’s leading banks. Despite the gloom, real estate projects with a strong business case do receive finance. It’s a typical scene in the region.

Fresh news is that The Caledonia must close on the 4th of March for two months, apparently NAV has just contacted the pub's owners saying they made an "administrative mistake" about the closing date of 3 January. All related appeals by the pub were rejected regarding this punishment, and the authorities insist on closure since two bottles of the same spirit were open behind the bar, and ...

All who are justifiably in need will receive medical treatment, health state secretary Miklós Szócska announced, following a draft decree suggesting that cancer patients who cannot be operated on would not have access to expensive medication.
