House Speaker László Kövér accused the left wing of building its election campaign on anger, rancour and hatred instead of promoting an atmosphere of sober deliberation, parliamentary speaker László Kövér said on Sunday. Kövér told commercial broadcaster Lánchíd Radio that some of the left wing’s methods are new, but others had been used before.

Representatives of the Ministry of Human Resources held talks with the Human Rights Watch about the organisation's report on domestic violence in Hungary. The report subsequently acknowledges that including violence within relationships as a separate category of offence within the new Penal Code, operative as of 1 July 2013, was a necessary step and points in the right direction.

Lately I have been struck by the high number of incidents, often resulting in death, involving relatives or people living in the same household. A daughter kills her mother, an 85-year-old former high-ranking police officer kills his 79-year-old wife, a professional soccer player kills his partner and her son in a family dispute. These are only three cases I remember from the last two weeks or so.
