The Farsang ("Fasching" in German, "Carnevale" in Italian, "Carnival" in English, "Mardi Gras" in French) season is upon us, and throughout Europe (especially in the Christian countries), and in the US in New Orleans in particular. This is the period to eat, drink and be merry before Lent, as Lent is the period of fasting and abstinence which begins on Ash Wednesday.
