The National Election Office (NVI) registered some 900 foreign observers for Sunday’s general election. According to figures published on the NVI website, 235 observers represented the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s democratic institutions and human rights office (ODIHR) and 102 for the parliamentary assembly of OSCE.

“We condemn the Russian attack, but we cannot help the Ukrainians if we destroy ourselves in the meantime,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told public radio. Some countries have shipping and storage capacities allowing them to manage without Russian oil or gas, he said, said it was “not a question of putting on a pullover and turning the heating down or paying a few forints more for gas.”
