'Circle Dance' Performance, Palace of Arts, 1 June
The 70-year-old Hungarian State Folk Ensemble's performance has been prepared in memory of the Trianion Peace Treaty that took place 100 years ago.

This anthology-like selection from the folklore of the Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin, as well as the nationalities that have shared their historical communities (Romanians, Slovaks, Serbs and Croats, Swabians, Ruthenians, Jews, Gypsies), travels and dances around the Felvidék, Transcarpathia, Transylvania and Délvidék regions, as well as 'Smaller Hungary'.

In a broad panorama, the show, which firmly believes in the unquestionable reality of belonging, presents a peasant heritage: the unparalleled cultural and intellectual commodities that have emerged thanks to a thousand years of coexistence.

The Circle Dance production is not seeking historical truth, its purpose is not to confront the historic tragedy of a nation, but to remember! It remembers in the spirit of how, as Sándor Márai put it after losing his homeland: 'Somehow... everything has become distant'.

Now we, people who live in the modern world, still see that century-old 'distance', yet we believe that no matter how great the distance may seem, it remains just as close!
