New Car Registrations Remain Depressed In Hungary In June

"New passenger car registrations declined further in Hungary in June and were down by nearly 30% year on year. Monthly new car sales seem to stabilise around 3,000-4,000 units, which is only a fraction of the numbers seen before the crisis hit.
New passenger car registrations dropped 28% year on year in Hungary in June, but the decline is less drastic than before - the yr/yr decrease has been over 50% in nearly every month between January 2009 and April 2010. In May this year there was "only" a 25% drop.
Over the past 12 months or so, monthly new passenger car registrations amounted to 3,000-4,000 units, which is only a fraction of pre-crisis sales. There was no "wreck premium" scheme in effect to help sales in Hungary, while such programmes helped recovery of the sector in a number of European countries over the past 18 months.
Skoda has taken the lead in new car sales last month, with 609 units sold, nearly the double of the June 2009 figure. The second most popular brand was Volkswagen, with 472 cars sold, 29% more than in the base period. Meanwhile, Ford’s sales plummeted 33% to 446 units, thus the producer came in third in June, but it maintained its market leading position if we consider total sales in H1."
