'Voice of Piaf', Jil Aigrot in Budapest, 15 October
"I’m sure that Edith Piaf must be very proud up there seeing you singing her chansons!" wrote someone in the guest book at one of Jil Aigrot’s concerts. Some are moved to tears by the singer’s voice, others relive long forgotten memories, feelings and love affairs – the effect is diverse but one thing is for sure: after the concert, no one leaves as the same person who entered.

In Olivier Dahan’s film La Môme, Piaf was played by Marion Cotillard but the songs were sung by Jil Aigrot who was discovered by Piaf’s closer friend Ginou Richter, and recommended for the role. The critics say Jil Aigrot sings Piaf’s songs with exceptional passion, and her performances are a homage to Piaf’s memory, and transport the audience to the skies. Just as with Piaf, music radiates from her whole being.

She sings simply, originally and sincerely and from the very core of her being and it is immediately apparent that she lives for her audience and that it is the concert stage that gives her life. “Jil Aigrot … could give even the stars goosebumps” – wrote a journalist at La Montagne and the audience in Budapest will almost certainly confirm this judgement.

Jil Aigro will be singing such evergreens as Hymne à l’Amour, La Vie en Rose, Mon manège à Moi and Non, je ne regrette rien, making for an unforgettable evening even for those unfamiliar with Piaf’s oeuvre.
