Alföldi, Fidesz Turn Down Jobbik Invite In Hungary
"National Theatre director Róbert Alföldi will not attend Thursday’s House cultural and press committee sub-committee meeting. Jobbik MP Előd Novák had told reporters that Alföldi had accepted an invitation and would “deliver” his defence speech in the framework of an agenda on his dismissal.

Alföldi told Népszava, however, that he will not attend, because the sub-committee is not authorised to discuss his dismissal.

The Fidesz caucus said this incident shows that Novák has no idea of the sub-committee’s purview.

Jobbik will stage a demonstration outside the National Theatre at 6 p.m, Wednesday against Alföldi, who is a homosexual.

National Resources Ministry state secretary János Halász said “everything will have its time” in response to a Jobbik demand that Alföldi be sacked from the National Theatre.

Meanwhile the Romanian embassy will host a reception marking Romania’s independence day at Budapest’s Le Meridien hotel. It had originally planned to hold the event at the National Theatre but Alföldi cancelled the agreement in response to uproar from nationalist bodies and parties."
