Telenor In Hungary Won’t Swallow Telephone Tax
Telenor will pass on added costs from the new telephone tax to subscribers unless one of the two taxes hitting the sector is phased out, communication director István Kutas announced yesterday. Telenor will face an additional Ft 1 billion burden per month, if the new tax, the second sectoral tax, begins July 1, Kutas observed.

“This is the kind of financial burden we cannot swallow,” he said. “When the government withdraws one of the two taxes, we will reset our prices,” he added.

Magyar Telekom chairman and CEO Christopher Mattheisen expressed hope that a sustainable solution will be found taking into account the country’s competitiveness. Vodafone is hopeful that the government will consider proposals from the three mobile operators put forward in a joint statement.
