Kalocsa Embroidered & Paprika-Scented Stamps Now Available In Hungary
Kalocsa embroidery is featured on the Hungarian 80 ft stamp, while the HUF 130 stamp shows a string of peppers from Kalocsa and part of the exterior of the Paprika Museum in that town. The stamps in the sheet are arranged head to tail in a tête-bêche format. The design of the stamp and border of the numbered block has artefacts of 'ecclesiastical art' from Kalocsa.

Copies of the stamp block numbered from 1 to 10,000 are only available in the special compilation of stamps, the Kalocsa Collection, which also contains a special version of the stamp set.

The distinctive feature of the special HUF 80 stamp is that the rose motif taken from local folk art is genuine embroidery, while the special smell of paprika is captured in microcapsules applied with spot varnish to the HUF 130 stamp.

The compilation is available in a limited edition of 10,000, and this number is identical with the number of copies of the special version of the stamp set. The price of the collection is EUR 19.

An unusual feature of the block is that a layer of anti-stokes security ink is used besides offset printing for the inscription of the country’s name MAGYARORSZÁG. Security devices react to the special ink with sound and light signals.
