Traditionally, the conference is opened by renowned and acclaimed keynote speakers who bring several decades of experience to the event. In recent years we had Bruce Schneier on the stage, declared one of the world’s most famous „security gurus” by the British Economist magazine, or Peter Szor, the Hungarian-born expert from Los Angeles who is called the father of virus protection.

This year there will be two keynote speakers at the conference. Jeff Bardin, Chief Intelligence Officer and one of the most respected experts in the field of cyber crime and cyber terrorism will come from the US. In 2007, Jeff was awarded the RSA Conference award for Excellence in the Field of Security Practices. His talk will cover the cyber intelligence lifecycle (OSINT), including examples of cyber espionage, sock puppet creation, collection and analysis of information from blogs and social media.

Our other keynote speaker this year is a real knight, Sir David Pepper from the United Kingdom. Sir David Pepper was the Director of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) – the UK Government’s agency responsible for Signals Intelligence and electronic information security. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Thales UK, and works with Deloitte on cyber risk and national security issues. Cyber attacks and technical defences are constantly evolving, each trying to get ahead of the other. But the driving forces behind the cyber wars are not just technical, and the struggle has major implications outside cyberspace. In his talk Sir David Pepper will present the evolution of the cyberspace and speak about the coming trends.

The other speakers in the programme had to submit their papers for selection (just like at other major IT conferences in the world) as being a speaker at Hacktivity counts as a professional recognition. We received 48 papers, the highest number up to now. We had applicants from Hungary as well as foreign speakers from Croatia, Germany, Denmark, Russia, Morocco, Israel, India and the US! The programme committee chose thirty papers and five so-called Hello Workshops.

During the two days of the conference topics such as iOS (Apple) and Android security, managing DOS attacks, USB vulnerabilities, database security, biometrics, web vulnerabilities, Duqu, Flame and Gauss spyware will be covered. The event will not disappoint hardcore technology geeks either, offering searches in kernel drivers, pentesting in high security environments and rootkit writing for modules for browsers.

Hello Workshops, organized for the first time last year and producing fully crowded halls, will continue this year with the an unchanged objective: to make participants go all the way from theory to practice. We will have Hello Injection, Hello CA, Hello source code analysis workshops and the presentation of a brand-new Hacking platform.

Those who feel like competing at Hacktivity can take part in a 24-hour challenge in the framework of Hacker Road 2.0, the extended version of last year’s wildly successful obstacle course. Hacker Road now incorporates Wargame, designed by Webshark Kft., the developer of the Hacktivity website, Urban Warrior lockpicking, the Splunk-based investigative task created by RRC Kft. and many more interesting obstacles. The final score will be the sum of all obstacles overcome but even Jack Bauer could not do it in 24 hours so we recommend you to enter in groups of 4!
