We Must Quadruple Number Of People Actively Engaged In Sports Within Ten Years In Hungary
The government aims to increase the number of Hungarian citizens practicing sports for at least 30 minutes twice a week from 9-20 percent within five years and to 30-35 percent within ten years, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Budafok Workers Physical Training Association (BMTE), stressing that the government will elaborate the new support scheme for non-spectator team sports as early as this autumn.

Viktor Orbán underlined the government’s intention to involve the youth and the whole of Hungarian society in regular sporting activities. He said that the introduction of daily psychical education lessons in schools from this September was an important step towards achieving this goal.

Making children do exercises is of enormous importance in view of the fact that Hungary is ranked among the 4 least sporting nations in the EU and only 38 per cent of young people do sports on a regular basis, the Prime Minister said. He added, sporting associations like the BMTE could be the government’s best allies in this latter endeavour.
