Budapest Airport Prepares For Snowfall
The entire snow fleet at Budapest Airport is on standby with an increased headcount, in anticipation of the snowstorm expected today, 14 March 2013, in the late afternoon or early evening. The airport operator has been busy taking preparatory measures since the morning, so that flights should continue to arrive and depart safely, even when the expected sudden, intense snowfall arrives. Budapest Airport advises passengers to plan their journey to the airport carefully during the next 24 hours, in order to ensure that all passengers should reach their flights.

The highest level snow alert has been in force at Budapest Airport since midday. According to the latest meteorological data, an initial, mild snowfall in the afternoon will be followed by a snowstorm during the evening hours, accompanied by strong winds. Forecasts then predict 10 centimeters of snow until dawn tomorrow, with winds gusting up to 60-70 km/h.

The snowfall will be assisted by low temperatures, expected to be below freezing point throughout. The most problematic phenomenon in terms of airport operation is the strong wind, since snow from nearby areas could be blown onto the freshly cleared runways in a matter of minutes. Budapest Airport is making every effort to ensure that flights should be able to operate safely; however, delays are possible on account of the extreme weather.

Budapest Airport asks departing passengers to leave for the airport in good time, and to check flight information on our website at www.bud.hu before setting off. During the next 24 hours, it may be worth departing for the airport earlier than usual.
