Lily Of The Valley Poisons Man To Death In Hungary
Hungarian boxing coach died after adding lily of the valley to his omelette. The boxing trainer from Fehérvár mixed some wild garlic leaves (medvehagyma in Hungarian) that he picked himself into his omelette, accidentally adding lily of the valley to it. The fifty-year-old man complained of stomach ache on Saturday, and was found dead by his son on Sunday.

The head of the National Public Health and Medical Services Gabor Gomori said, that the leaves of the wild garlic can be easily confused with the lily or the crocus.

The latter two flowers are severely toxic and can be fatal even if consumed in small quantities.

To be able to differentiate between them, one should know that the flower of the wild garlic is small, white, star-shaped and grows at the end of the stem.

The lily flowers are bell-shaped growing along the stem. On the spring crocus there is no flower, and unlike the wild garlic, which grows in the forest, it lives on sunny fields.
