Flood Surfing In Budapest, Actually Skimboarding...
- 6 Jun 2013 9:00 AM
Some adventurous Budapest lads, probably inspired by the expression about every cloud having a silver lining, are having fun along the banks of the overflowing Danube. While record floodwaters are racing down the river, leaving some towns and villages partly swamped, these creative Hungarians are turning this emergency into a skimboarding party.
The wave riding idea may surprise many during these distressing times, but not to worry as these spirited surfers are contributing to the flood defences as they're putting sandbag barriers out where they're most needed.
As more roads closures and public transport cancellations are to come, the ultimate way of getting from A to B might just become via surfboard, or skimboard to be exact.
