E-toll System Won’t Apply To Cars In Hungary

The government is not planning to extend the electronic road-toll system to passenger cars, but will instead continue with motorway stickers allowing unlimited mileage, the Development Ministry said in a statement. The technical capacity exists to extend the electronic scheme to other vehicle categories, state secretary Pál Völner told Népszabadság in an interview, prompting speculation in the media that usage-based fees in place for trucks since July 1 could be extended to cars.
The extension of the usage-based tolls could be considered if there were massive demand from motorists, the statement read.
