Panasonic To Close Factory In Hungary
- 12 Jul 2013 9:00 AM
Panasonic just confirmed it will close its only European solar cell plant in Hungary next March, and so will dismiss around 500 workers at the factory in Dorog. The Japanese corporation plans to transfer all production to Malaysia, and as part of the reorganization of production facilities the Hungarian factory will reportedly end production this September. Equipment from the Hungarian facility will be transported to the other Panasonic plants in Asia.
“This decision is in line with improving overall profitability by transferring all production to our new factory in Malaysia,” Jasmin Hanf of Panasonic Europe is quoted as saying to ‘Solar Server’. Panasonic noted that despite the closure there will be no reduction in its overall capacity, and the company expects to increase output 25% in 2014. Panasonic recently closed its silicon wafer plant in the US state of Oregon in June 2013.
