Closing Premature Infant Ward In Miskolc, Hungary “Not Necessary”
The closing of the premature infant ward of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Hospital is not necessary, Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska stated at a press conference in Miskolc. On Monday, the Prime Minister ordered a special inquiry into the recent deaths of eight premature babies at the hospital. The incidents occurred between August 5 and 10.

The Minister of State pointed out that officials are currently carrying out an extensive and meticulous examination to ascertain if there is any possible infection at the neonatal unit. In order to ensure impartiality, the hospital’s director Gábor Csiba has been temporarily suspended and Gábor Nagy will take over the management of the institution during the time of the inquiry.

The National Investigation Office (NNI) of the National Police Force is also investigating the cases; precautionary measures introduced by the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service (ÁNTSZ) will remain in place at the premature infant ward until further notice.
