Experiencing The Thermal Baths Of Budapest
Visiting one of Budapest’s famous thermal baths should be high on the list of any of those visiting the city. However, do not let the name “bath” fool you. No one is going to insist you arrive unclothed and carry along your shampoo and soap. These “baths” are not for cleaning but rather for relaxing.

Most all of the locals and those who frequent Budapest have all experienced these baths and there are few complaints to be found. The city has many to choose from with the most famous being the Gellért Bath, while the largest remains the Széchenyi Bath. Most all of the baths offer both indoor and outdoor pools as well as spa treatments and drinking fountains. The numerous pools in each bath really add to the satisfaction of every visitor. No matter your preference there is bound to be something that suits your needs in each bath.

While spending time in one of these thermal baths you are exposed to a variety of cultures and peoples. Visitors come from all around the world and with them they bring different norms about what to wear and how to act in this type of environment. While relaxing in the pools you are likely to see swimwear that you are not accustomed too as well as actions that surprise you.

Just because swimming trunks are the norm for men in your country doesn’t mean that they are normal for others. In other words, prepare to see swimming bottoms of all shapes and sizes, no matter how uncomfortable you may be acknowledging them. As for women, bikinis and one-piece suit are found throughout the pools with a sprinkling of those who dare to show more skin and sport thong bottoms. All in all your experience there will not leave you feeling as though you do not fit in, no matter your swimming attire preference.

In particular the Széchenyi Thermal Bath proves to be a favorite among those of all ages. This is probably because of its vast offerings. You can bask in any of the multiple indoor and outdoor pools, sweat out toxins in the saunas, take a ride in the natural whirlpool (located in one of the outdoor pools), receive a relaxing massage, and even purchase healing water, all in one day’s time. There is plenty of room for families with kids and the pools are each of different temperatures assuring optimum enjoyment. Most importantly, you don’t have to speak Hungarian to feel at home. The well-mannered staff communicates in English with ease, allowing you to feel comfortable in a rather unfamiliar place. Newcomers need only to bring a towel and your day of luxury and relaxation is set.

Any thermal bath one chooses to visit is ultimately an experience like no other. It is an affordable way to taste a piece of Budapest, not in the literal sense of course. Don’t skip out on the opportunity to try something a little out of your comfort zone when visiting the city. These baths won’t disappoint.
