Hungarians Still Liberal On Abortion
The majority of the Hungarian population, 53%, supports existing abortion regulations, 18% would support measures to ease them and only 13% would like stricter rules, according to a September survey by Medián. In Hungary women may request an abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy.

Even a majority of Fidesz supporters, 58%, would leave that regulation as it is.

Right-wing voters are slightly more in favour of stricter rules, while left-wing voters are somewhat more inclined to ease them.

The survey found that 75% of Hungarians support the licensing of the abortion pill, and nearly 50% of respondents would make the pill available for women who receive social insurance subsidies. Only 10% would oppose its introduction.

A majority of Hungarians, including regular churchgoers, believe that the pill should be subsidised by the government, while only 10% would ban it outright.
