Hungary’s Minister Varga To Decide Who Might Open Casinos
Pro-governmental companies might profit from the gambling market, according to Blikk, if the latest legislative bill is approved allowing the minister of the national economy to regulate casinos’ concession rights

According to the bill proposed by József Értékes and Imre Puskás, representatives of Fidesz, Mihály Varga could also decide who would be able to open a casino in Hungary. Varga could concede rights for opening casinos to competitors without tender given that they are ‘reliable gambling organisers’ or in other words, they have been in the business for more than 10 years, they have clear, straightforward ownership and they have not accrued taxes.

Those applying without tendering would have to pay twice the concession fee and should offer a minimum of 100 million HUF for the next year. As one company could maintain a maximum of five casinos and the budget is built around nine units, only two companies would be enough.
