Budapest Snooker Masters, Gerevich Aladár Sport Center, 4 - 5 January
- 3 Jan 2025 10:25 AM
For Hungarian snooker fans, a long-held dream is coming true: instead of light-hearted exhibition matches, this event will feature intense, high-stakes games, live at the Gerevich Aladár Sports Hall.
Two world champions, Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson, former world championship finalist Barry Hawkins, and Hungary’s own rising star Bulcsú Révész, who debuted with great success among professionals in August 2024, promise an electrifying showcase of top-tier snooker.
The matches will be officiated by two experienced referees, Éva Kószó and László Bekk, both seasoned in international tournaments.
A New Format
The two-day event comprises four distinct sessions, featuring a total of eight matches. The first six matches follow a round-robin format, while the final session on Sunday evening will determine the first OMV Budapest Snooker Masters champion and the podium finishers.
Qualifying Rounds
On Saturday afternoon and evening, as well as Sunday afternoon, the qualifying matches will be held. During these sessions, the players will compete in a round-robin format, ensuring all possible pairings are played. This format allows ticket holders for any session to see all four players in action.
Scoring System
Each qualifying match consists of six frames, with the winner earning two points. A tied result (3-3) awards one point to each player. In the event of a tie in the group stage standings, rankings will be determined by head-to-head results, frame difference, and, if necessary, the highest break.
The Final
Sunday evening will feature the fourth and final session, consisting of two decisive matches based on the qualifying results.
The 3rd and 4th place players will face off in a best-of-3 frames match to determine the bronze medalist.
The top two players will compete for the OMV Budapest Snooker Masters trophy in a best-of-9 frames match.
This exciting event promises to deliver a thrilling start to the Hungarian snooker calendar in 2025!
Meet & Greet
As with previous galas, a limited number of Meet & Greet tickets will be available for purchase. Ticket holders will have the exclusive opportunity to meet the stars in person at the arena, right next to the competition table. The organizers will provide a chance for a brief conversation, photo opportunities, and autographs with the players.
