Hungary is not a nation of travel-phobic people, but according to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office’s latest survey, more Hungarians chose to enjoy the familiar comforts of their own country while on holiday this year.
The study reveals that in August 2013 the number of foreign and native overnight guests in commercial accommodations jumped up to 1.26 million, which is a 2.9% increase compared to last year’s figures.
While the number of foreign overnight visitors had increased by 1.9%, the real reason for the growth was the 3.7% increase in the number of Hungarian guests.
Accommodation revenue this year also grew by 11%, partly because the average room prices went up by 5.1%.
