New Bill Criminalises Homelessness In Hungary Again
Homelessness can again be punished under a bill passed yesterday by the governing majority at the initiative of Interior Minister Sándor Pintér.

Living on the streets on World Heritage areas will be considered a misdemeanour. In addition, local councils will again have the power to designate which public areas are off-limits to the homeless.

Under the bill, police or other authorities must first ask those sleeping in public places to leave the designated area.

Those who refuse may be forced to do community service work or pay a fine.

Anyone caught violating the law twice within six months may be imprisoned.
