The Headmaster of Britannica, Mr. Ken Baines said, ’We are pleased to be the owners rather than the tenants of this fine building with its unique architecture, prestigious location and commanding views in District XII. Our students appreciate the great facilities particularly the indoor swimming pool and gymnasium. The lease from our American colleagues was for five years only but, of course, students remain with us for much longer than that so we are delighted to have secured the long term control of the school building.’
Britannica International School is part of Orbital Education Ltd., a company which owns and operates British style international schools. Chairman of Orbital Education, Mr. Kevin McNeany commented,’ We have been negotiating with AISB for some time. We were determined to secure the future of the school in these excellent premises. Since moving to Kakukk utca the school has more than doubled in numbers with students hailing from more than 45 countries and with excellent examination results that have seen a number of our students entering Ivy League and top UK universities.’
Originally seen by its founders as a school for diplomats' children and for children of other British expatriates employed in Hungary by international companies the school has widened its intake over the years to become home to a large multinational student body. Currently there are 49 nationalities amongst the students. The foundation of the educational programme is an enhanced version of the National Curriculum for England designed to reflect a truly international outlook.
