Turkish cuisine has promptly made a name for itself here in Budapest. There are few footsteps needed in between gyros shops and others offering similar dishes. These side shops have proved to be a favorite among visitors and locals alike.
Not only are they cheap, but one gyro can be purchased for a little under 600 forints, sometimes less, but they are easily eaten on the go which adds to their popularity. Be prepared to get a little sticky, these gyros are anything but dry. After the toppings and sauce it is near impossible to keep all the juicy goodness inside the soft wrapping. Also available at many of these shops are other cheap foods, including pizza and the always tasty baklava, being a flakey pastry type of desert with honey and sometimes made in a chocolate variety. Chinese food cannot escape the list of most available foods within the city. Chinese eateries and buffets are generously scattered throughout Budapest. One can buy a heaping plate of noodles and spicy chicken for fewer than 1000 forints, what a deal.
Pizza in the city speaks for itself. It can be found just about anywhere, from side shops to the local Spars. Generally sold by the slice this food is more than affordable. One of the reasons pizza is so prominent in the city is of course its affordability, but also its familiarity among those who travel here. Just about everyone has come across pizza, which makes it an easy choice for even the most apprehensive of travelers. Along with this well- known fare are the International fast food chains that plague the city. Certainly when traveling one does not want to get their usual at McDonalds or Burger King, however; these quick and easy chains offer a touch of home no matter where one has traveled from. Other eateries such as T.G.I.Fridays and Hooters have made their way into the city as well. These restaurants are almost exact replicas of those found in countries such as America.
A huge part of eating Budapest is tied to Cukrászdáks, which are bakeries. Here one can buy flakey pastries and breads that are not only cheap, but made fresh daily. One is sure to smell the baking delight whenever they enter a metro station or so much as walk a few blocks down the street. They are never too far, which adds to their accessibility. Traditional Hungarian food cannot be forgotten when discussing eateries in Hungary. Goulash, their famous beefy soup, can be found in many pubs as well as traditional Hungarian restaurants. Other well-known dishes such as chicken paprika and stuffed cabbage are sure to be found just about anywhere. All in all just about anywhere you set out to go within Budapest you are sure to come back home with a full and satisfied stomach.
