Updated: Telecom Service Providers Expected to Stop Raising Prices in Hungary
- 10 Apr 2025 5:47 AM

Internet, television and mobile phone service fees rose by close to 16pc in the first two months of the year, the minister said. That is quite steep, he added.
The service providers are set to increase prices further from April, which is unacceptable, Nagy said. The government wants to see a voluntary price limitation, so that prices do not rise further.
"We believe these telecommunications prices are high even in international comparison. [Service providers] have one week to come back - that is Monday-Tuesday - to make commitments to us," the minister said.
When asked whether a decision could be made in April to reduce prices, Nagy said the government would decide whether the commitments made by market players were acceptable or whether it would resort to market regulation.
Big telcos to freeze fees till 1 July 2026
Prime Minister Viktor Orban said big telecommunication service providers would not raise their fees until July 1, 2026, in a video message posted on social media on Wednesday.
Orban said telcos that had raised fees earlier would roll those back to levels on January 1. He noted that those fees applied to television, internet and mobile subscriptions, too.
Orban said the continuation of price reductions was the most important topic discussed at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. He added that National Economy Minister Marton Nagy had reported on talks with telcos.
Agreements have been reached with telcos, and the biggest Hungarian-owned telco also pledged to introduce new, preferential fees for retail subscribers, Orban said.
