The Museum's most popular permanent exhibition has been rebuilt, rethought and is now arranged thematically instead of in the old chronological order, making it a high standard European installation – Museum Director László Baán said at a press conference prior to the official opening.

The artefacts have been organised by the museum’s experts into thematic units linked to the 3 spheres that made up the ancient Egyptian universe: the people, the gods and the dead; highlighting the connections between the spheres.

The rethinking of the exhibition was realised thanks to Government funding of HUF 200 million (€ 660.000), which made it possible for several collections to be renewed. A further HUF 100 million (€ 330.000) was granted by the state for the biggest ever purchase of the Egyptian collection – a Haunefer tomb relief from the 6th dynasty, identified by Hungarian experts.

János Lázár, Minister of State heading the Prime Minister's Office, said in his speech that „in the last 15 years, the museum has gone through a quality revolution” and the Government is trying to set an example by giving its full support to culture.
