Hungary’s Fidesz Rejects Socialist Criticism Over Employment Situation
- 16 Dec 2013 8:00 AM
Socialist lawmaker Nándor Gúr, head of parliament’s employment committee, said at the weekend that far fewer people were employed than before the crisis, while the government had “taken away one-third of the wages of public workers”, and the purchasing power of the minimum wage was 5,000-6,000 forints (EUR 16-18) lower than in 2010.
Fidesz insisted that the jobless rate doubled during the Socialist period of government whereas employment is now at its highest level for the past 21 years. The Socialist governments increased the prices of public utilities and taxes, but now families benefit from utility cuts and reduced taxes, Fidesz said.
