Poll Registers Unchanged Support For Parties In Hungary
Support for Hungary’s political parties was virtually unchanged at the beginning of the year, pollster Nézőpont told MTI, referring to its latest survey conducted for the weekly Heti Válasz.

The survey, taken between January 6 and 9, before the opposition parties came up with a joint election list, showed that the ruling Fidesz party was favoured by 37% of all respondents, while parties of the Left stood at 21% all together. Within the latter group, the Socialists were supported by 10%, E-PM by 7%, and the Democratic Coalition (DK) by 4%.

Among decided voters, Fidesz enjoyed a 46% support, while 25% said they would vote Left if the election were to be held next weekend (10% for the Socialists, 9 % for Bajnai’s E-PM and 6% for Gyurcsány’s DK) . The small opposition LMP has been below the parliamentary threshold of 5%. Voter turnout would be 64%.

In a Századvég poll, the electoral coalition on the left was seen increasing its voter support by one percent only after setting up a joint list, as compared to running on individual lists.

The radical nationalist Jobbik party also increased its support in January.
