An archive commemorating late Hungarian pop singer Tamás Cseh was officially opened in Budapest on Wednesday by State Minister for Culture János Halász. Halász said at the opening that Cseh and his lyricist, Géza Bereményi, knew very well that some things one cannot talk about can only be expressed in songs.
Tamás Cseh was a chronicler of Hungarian social phenomena and one of the country’s most beloved performers from the early 1970s until his death in 2009. The opening day of the archive, 22 January, is both his birthday and Hungarian Culture Day.
The archive, housed in the buildings of the National Archives, will gather and preserve the singer’s personal collection and spiritual legacy while also serving as a repository for audio-visual records of his work.
