Vonatinfo Returns: Real-Time Train Tracking System in Hungary Now Back On
The electronic system EMIG, which provides real-time information on the position and movements of locomotives of the Hungarian railway company MAV, is available to the public again, the minister of transport and investment said on Facebook on Wednesday.

David Vitezy called the step "an important symbolic and practical measure: albeit not a cutting-edge service, nor does it provide all the same functions as previously, but real-life information on the position of individual trains and delays is once again accessible."

Vitezy noted that the former transport and construction minister, Janos Lazar, had ordered MAV to shut down EMIG and Vonatinfo, "which made it clear that they were trying keep the problems of the Hungarian railways a secret, rather than resolving them."

"We are trying to do the exact opposite... Janos Lazar decided after Whitsun weekend a year ago to keep real-life information a secret from travellers. The last thing I want to do is pretend everything ran smoothly this weekend..."
 Vitezy said.

He added that in contrast to his predecessor, he saw the solution in making those systems publicly available.
