Prime Minister’s Office State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said on Wednesday that the food and wine industries represent one of four pillars of Hungary’s potential exports to the east. Szijjártó identified the machine industry, specifically the automobile industry, engineering services and water-management as the other three pillars of Hungarian exports to countries in the east.
The state secretary reiterated the government’s objective of increasing the proportion of Hungary’s exports to non-European Union countries to one-third of all exports. Hungary currently sends one-fifth of all the country’s exports to non-EU countries.
Szijjártó said that the government’s Eastern Opening policy aimed at increasing Hungary’s eastern trade also is founded upon the strengthening of strategic economic cooperation with China and the Far East, Russia, the Arab world, the Caucasus republics and the western Balkans.
