Hungary’s Leftist Unity Charges Administration Authority Chief With Graft
The leftist Unity alliance said it would file a criminal complaint against Iván Vetési, the head of public administration and electronic services authority KEKKH, on suspicion of mismanagement of public funds, Viktor Szigetvári, - pictured - co-chair of Unity’s E-PM party, told a press conference.

According to Unity, KEKKH has awarded contracts in a national electronic card tender to two companies associated with András Levente Gál, former state secretary of the justice ministry, Vetési’s former chief.

Szigetvári called on Gál and Diána Detre, Gál’s partner and owner of one of the winning companies, to repay funds they may have received under the disputed contracts. KEKKH said that the authority had followed national and internal regulations in all of its procurement procedures. KEKKH rejected the charges, saying that it had considered market prices when selecting the companies to be contracted.

“Companies with a better bid won,” the statement said. A recent audit by the EUTAF directorate in charge of EU funds has also found that everything had been carried out in line with regulations, the statement added.

News portal index.hu reported that Detre’s and Gál’s companies were awarded without a public bid a contract worth 23.9 and 24 million forints, respectively.
