Easter Programmes Throughout Hungary
Apart from major religious celebrations, Hungary will celebrate Easter with many programmes in the capital, in open air museums, and towns and villages nationwide. The biggest traditional Easter event, the third Easter Merriment will be held in Budapest’s Buda Castle on April 19- 21.

The event will offer arts&crafts and folk fairs, gastronomic delights and folk craft workshops. In the Vajdahunyad Castle in City Park an Easter Lamb Festival will await guests with a livestock show, a Hungarian and international lamb meals cooking contest.

Open air museums at Szentendre near Budapest and at Szenna in southwest Hungary will host colourful programmes featuring the Easter traditions of water spraying and egg painting, as well as folk games and preparing Easter specialties.

Cardinal-Archbishop Péter Erdő will celebrate an Easter mass in Esztergom, Bishop of the Reformed Church Gusztáv Bölcskei in Debrecen and Bishop of the Lutheran Church Peter Gáncs in Budapest, on Sunday morning. Easter Monday is a public holiday in Hungary.
