Hungary’LMP To Act As Opposition To Both Sides, Says Schiffer
The LMP party plans to act as an opposition to both sides, party leader András Schiffer said in an interview Népszabadság daily. Schiffer rejected the accusation that his party, which had refused to join the opposition alliance, would be responsible for missing the opportunity to replace the government at the upcoming election.

He said those “failed politicians” who insist on keeping their positions and refuse to understand the message of the 2010 election should be held responsible.

According to Schiffer, the likelihood of a change of government is minimal. Hungarian voters sent a very strong and clear message to politicians in 2010 but the “old elite” learnt nothing from it, he said.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has not understood it, either, because “he drew the conclusion that he is free to do anything, yet people’s message was that a change of direction is needed and politics must be freed from the captivity of the oligarchs,” Schiffer added.

The change of direction has not happened and the reason that voter support has not reversed is that “many people refuse to believe that the pseudo-left could free the country from this captivity,” he said. Schiffer said his party is the only guarantor of the hope this liberation could happen.
