Hungarian Pavilion At Milan Expo To Cost 4.7bn Forints
The Hungarian government will spend a 4.7 billion forints on the pavilion representing the country at the 2015 World Expo in Milan, government commissioner Géza Szőcs said on Tuesday. The planned pavilion will “powerfully present Hungary’s themes, and the design is appreciated by both the Italian press and architects,” he said.

The design, dubbed Alakor, will express Hungary’s traditions, represent the country as the land of waters, and give references to Hungary-Italy ties as well as contemporary culture, he said.

The design was developed by a team of architects led by Sándor Sárkány and Attila Ertsey and won second place in a competition for the project, Szőcs said.

He added that the winning bid had been dropped because the given time frame and budget would not have supported its implementation.

The composition is made up of an “ark of life” with ritual drums of the ancient Magyars at each end. It will be made mostly of natural and renewable materials such as wood or cellulose.
