Budapest General Assembly Approves Metro 3 Revamp
- 30 Jun 2014 6:00 AM
Should the Budapest Transport Centre fail to sign a planning contract by July 8, 635 million forints available in European Union funding for the project will be lost.
The revamp must start in the 2014-2020 budgetary term because the metro line is currently considered as “high risk” in terms of operational and passenger safety, the proposal said.
The Soviet-made metro 3 carriages transport some 520,000-540,000 passengers on average working days. Built in the 1970s and 1980s, the metro line has never been comprehensively upgraded.
