New Car Registrations In Hungary Grow 15% In May

New car registrations have been on an increase since the beginning of the year. As compared to last year’s first five month period, 2014 has seen a 20.5% increase to a total of 26,742.
Light commercial vehicle registrations reached 1,371 in May, a 9.4% increase from a month earlier and performing much better as compared to May 2013. The figure for January-May also shows a substantial 50.1% increase as new vehicle registrations topped at 5,714 in the first five months of 2014. For the same period in 2013 the number of registrations only reached 3,806.
Although car sales are rising, motorcycles seem to be losing popularity as the number of registrations came to 238 in May, falling almost 12% from April and 15% from a year earlier. In January-May, motorcycle registrations amounted to 864, down 5% from a year earlier.
Heavy commercial vehicle registrations are also on the up. May saw a 5.8% uptick to 362 vehicles. Though the number was down 2.7% from April. In January-May 2014, a total of 1,723 new heavy commercial vehicles were registered, almost unchanged from a year earlier.
