Referring to “documents based on talks between ministry officials and André Goodfriend”, chargé d’affaires at the US embassy in Budapest, she added that state secretary for economic diplomacy, Levente Magyar, had told her that Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, had also seen the documents suggesting it was “a very serious affair”.

A diplomatic note prepared on Oct. 6 shows that the persons affected would be contacted within days, so this has likely happened already, Vadai said.

She added that the documents showed that Hungarian-US relations were at a nadir.
