Legendary soccer player Jenő Buzánszky, the last surviving member of Hungary’s Golden Team of the 1950s, was laid to rest in a funeral ceremony in Budapest on Friday.
Buzánszky died on January 12, at the age of 89. Addressing the burial in downtown St Stephen’s Basilica, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called Buzánszky a national legend whom everybody honoured and respected.
The right back of the Golden Team, Buzánszky made his debut in the national eleven in 1951 and remained on it for 48 selected matches up until 1956.
