Hungary Launches State Utility
- 19 Feb 2015 8:00 AM
The government has announced the launch of a state-owned holding company that will act as an "efficient, predictable and cheap" utilities provider. Cabinet state secretary for financial services Zsuzsanna Németh announced the launch at a press conference on Wednesday.
A government decree published in January mandated the establishment of the First National Utilities Company (ENKSZ) with share capital of 1 billion forints (EUR 3.3m) and capital reserves of 14 billion.
The government announced its intention to establish such a company last September.
The aim of the national utilities company is to make energy available at fair prices while increasing security of supply.
