See What Happened @ Gellért Söröző & Brasserie 2015
The oldest pub in Buda, it has been around since 1918. Originally owned by the Gundel family, as part of the Gellert Hotel, but always operating independently, it was mainly used by workers after the war. Now after a refurbishment in 2015, with a wide selection of craft beers (22 in total) including the “Fóti Zwickl”, the “Békésszentandrási Ogre”, the “Bigfoot Chicago”, or the “Stari Szilva”, the bar or brasserie is now ready to move into the next chapter of its life.

I was invited along with a selection of Hungary’s food and wine fraternity to an evening of fine dining at this charming establishment. Two menus to choose from I opted for number one. This consisted of a delicious trout salad, followed by a modern take on the classic gulyás (a cross between a soup and a main course), yummy, and the best was saved till last, a pear cake with the most sumptuous ice cream flavored with thyme. It was so good that the guests were ordering side dishes of the ice cream to savour one more time.

All accompanied by a marvelous selection of wines, craft beers and some cheeky pálinka. If you fancy a cosy nigh out, in a wonderful setting steeped in history, then this is the place to go. To finish off the evening, have a stroll on the side of the Danube and take in the beauty of Budapest.
