Biometric E-Card To Replace Personal ID - Govt Plans
- 2 Apr 2015 9:00 AM
From next January, the government plans to replace Hungarian citizens’ personal ID cards with a one-stop biometric card containing fingerprint data which will be suitable for providing an electronic signature, Napi Gazdaság said. A social consultation will precede the drafting of the relevant law.
The government believes a single card would be convenient for covering a range of official administration such as tax and social insurance.
The new card would also incorporate a citizen’s health insurance number as well as being suitable for gaining access to public transport services, the paper said.
